How do you design a meaningful catalogue for an exhibition presenting ultra-contemporary works by new artists with the romantic realist pastorals of Homer Watson, the great Canadian landscape painter of the late nineteenth century? NAR created a sophisticated, quiet, stitched-spine book that reflects both the old and the new. Our colour of choice was a modern take on forest green (Watson was a lover of hardwood forests). We used traditional typefaces, but in a dynamic way, and incorporated a unique grid system with right- and left-aligned type for a more interesting look. Photos were given interesting placements and surrounded by plenty of white space (what else?). Our design offered a strong, complementary contribution to the scholarly articles and works featured in this handsome 56-page publication.
